The Grief Support Group meets the first Saturday of each month from 11:00 am to 12:00 am and the Third Thursday each month from 11:00 am until noon.  The group then goes to lunch as a group.  This group is designed for people who have experienced, or are currently experiencing the loss of a loved one.  The group offers a chance to share and understand the complex feelings of loss in a supportive, caring environment.  We will share what has been difficult for you this month, what has been positive and what you are looking forward to.  Leaders are Rev. Dr. Jay Warthen, Rev. Dr. Bill Jorgensen and Karen Jorgensen.  We will devote this time to helping each other deal with and process of grief.  Beverages will be provided.

FLOWERS ARE needed for our sanctuary during the upcoming months...Please check the sign-up calendar and select a Sunday to place flowers in the church. Be sure to make a note about any special occasion for the date you choose. Any type of greenery, berries, potted plants, etc. would be appropriate during these dreary winter months.  Our white container is kept under the small lectern that is by the south windows. Contact Susan Wilbourne at 943-2967 for more information. Thanks!

Canned chicken and small canned hams

Complete boxed dinners ( meals in a box)

Donations will go towards helping local families who are facing financial crisis. Monetary donations are also accepted and encouraged.  Ecumenical Ministries can purchase much needed food in bulk and get more for the money.

As always any and all donations are appreciated. All food and money collected will be delivered to Ecumenical Ministries  by the Witness and Service Committee members during the month of  September.

 CASSEROLE MINISTRY

We have a casserole ministry at our Church under the auspices of the Fellowship Committee.  A casserole ministry is made up of Church members who lovingly donate their time to prepare casseroles for those in need due to illness, tests being run, sympathy or any other reason. Casseroles will be made up and put in the freezer in the church kitchen. They may be checked out by anyone in the Church. Recipients need not be Church members-just people in need of loving concern by us. Once a quarter various members will meet at the Church and prepare casseroles that may be checked out anytime. There will be a checkout list posted on the freezer door for you to sign the date, your name and the name of the recipient, so duplications will not be made. This is a caring ministry, and one we feel will benefit not only our members but others who are in need of help.  Sara Thompson is in charge of procuring cooks and cookees (assistant cooks), and food to prepare and store.  We are very excited over the creation of this ministry.  If you are interested in forming a cooking team of three or four friends, or in being on a team, please call Sara at 949-7531,  978-4319 or email her at sdthompson@gulftel.com. We are currently in the process of collecting casserole recipes that are easy to cook and freeze, and would appreciate any contributions.

The Alzheimer's Foundation of the South holds a monthly meeting at 10:30 am on the first Thursday of each month in the library at First Presbyterian Church, 195 East Berry Ave. in Foley, Alabama.  The support group is for family members and caregivers caring for an Alzheimers' patient.  We respectfully ask that no patients or young children attend the meeting.  Bunnie Sutton McDaniel, a certified dementia trainer and executive director of the Alzheimer's Foundation of the South, will be facilitating the meeting.  You may contact the Foundation at (251) 438-9590 or Ms. McDaniel at (251) 344-2747.  Alzheimers is a progressive, irreversible, neurological deterioration of the brain affecting an estimated 5 million Americans making it the 4th leading cause of death among adults.  The disease lasts an average of 8-10 years creating a tremendous toll on families and caregivers --physically, emotionally, socially and financially.  We are neighbors helping neighbors in hopes of easing the burden on caregivers.  We look forward to seeing anyone who can benefit from our services. Bunnie Sutton McDanile, MS

The Fellowship Committee will hold a pot luck supper at the church on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 6:00 pm. Everyone is invited for fun and fellowship. The committee will provide a spiral baked ham as the main entrée, but everyone is asked to bring a special dish: a meat dish, a favorite casserole, a vegetable dish, a salad or a dessert (yum!). We will have a pleasant evening with good food, followed by a real old fashioned hymn sing! So, come one, come all, join the fun!
